How Can You Get Your AC Ready for Summer?

Have you scheduled your air conditioning appointment yet for this season? If you haven’t, the time to do so is now. This is the number one way to get your air conditioner ready for summer. During your maintenance appointment, your HVAC technicians will conduct a full inspection of your system, ensuring everything is working properly and making adjustments as needed.

They’ll also provide a thorough cleaning and make recommendations for repairs at this time, if needed. It’s best to take care of these repairs right away to avoid costlier emergencies down the road. Aside from maintenance though, how else can you get your air conditioner ready for summer?

Change Your Air Filter

We recommend that this is done every 3 months. Changing your air filter prevents it from becoming clogged, obstructing air flow into your home and potentially damaging the internal components of your air conditioning system. If you have significant contaminants in your home, such as pet dander or cigarette smoke, then you may want to change the filter monthly instead.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

It’s easy to forget about your air conditioner’s outdoor unit. However, your entire system can face problems if air flow is obstructed by grass, mulch, dirt, leaves or any other debris. Be sure to also cut and remove any weeds or vines that are approaching your outdoor unit.

Check Coolant Lines

You’ll notice that your refrigerant lines, which run from the evaporator to the condenser outside, are typically covered with foam insulation to prevent them from losing energy. Check to see if any areas of this insulation appear frayed or if any sections are missing. Additionally, be sure to check for any water pooling in this area, as it may be a sign of a refrigerant leak that needs to be repaired.
