Your AC Repair FAQs Answered

white-question-mark-on-blue-background

When our customers come to us for repair or replacement needs, they usually want our help urgently. This makes sense, and we’re always happy to help! However, what happens in these cases is that we don’t have the opportunity to answer some common questions you might have, and you deserve those answers.

Read on as we uncover some of the most common questions we hear come up, and our responses. And when you do need expert HVAC service, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

How Long Will My AC Repair Last?

The short answer to this one is, “it depends.”

It depends on not only what the repair need is, but if it was completed right. What do we mean by this?

Take a refrigerant line leak. If you have an inexperienced handyperson fix it, they might do nothing more than recharge (refill) the refrigerant and call it a day. In this case, the repair may only last a season, if that. The problem with a refrigerant leak is that your air conditioner needs a certain amount of refrigerant in it to operate as it should throughout its lifespan. So not only does the system need to be recharged, but the source of the leak must be located and repaired too—in that case, the repair may last the rest of your system’s lifespan.

There are some other small repair needs that are a natural part of wear and tear that will typically last 2–3 years. For instance, if a fan becomes loose, or if a motor bearing needs lubrication. Then there are bigger repair needs where it might be more financially reasonable to replace the entire system, such as a compressor breakdown in a 10-year-old air conditioner.

How Much Does It Cost for AC Repair?

Just like with the answer above, it depends on the severity of the repair need. Some common repair needs, as we alluded to above, are motor bearings that have worn down, loose or bent fan blades, and capacitors that need replacement. Labor costs will always need to be considered, but these types of repairs are typically less costly to fix than something like a compressor malfunction or a refrigerant leak.

We’re happy to go over more specific costs with you if you give us a call!

Can AC Repairs Be Prevented?

Absolutely! In fact, routine air conditioning maintenance can reduce your repair costs by as much as 85% over the lifespan of the system. How so? Because during maintenance, our professionals thoroughly inspect, clean, and adjust the components that need it. This allows us to catch and address small wear and tear needs before they even have the chance to grow into bigger repair issues.

From there, we can alert you to the need for repairs and you can get them on your schedule right away. Taking this approach is what helps homeowners save money on repair costs, versus just waiting for the air conditioner to outwardly show signs that it’s struggling.
